Jorge M. Guitart joined the faculty of the University at Buffalo Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese (later the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures) in 1973. He was promoted to associate professor in 1977 and full professor in 1982. Guitart earned a B.A. in psychology from George Washington University (1967), and both an M.S. (1970) and Ph.D. (1973) in Spanish and Linguistics from Georgetown University. He retired from UB in 2019.
