Notice and Takedown Policy

The University at Buffalo Libraries Digital Collections provides online access to primary source materials and distinctive resources to support the teaching, learning, and research mission of the university. Digital collections hosted by the University at Buffalo are intended to provide accurate and unaltered representations of resources.

Sensitive Information

In preparing collections, the University at Buffalo Libraries takes steps to identify and exclude from publication sensitive information that could threaten the privacy and security of individuals, organizations, or others represented in the collection(s).

Given our commitment to preserving the authenticity and integrity of the scholarly and historical record, we are unable to correct errors or inaccuracies present in original items. Requests for removal and redaction of materials which have not been previously published, such as content contained within collections of archival documents or photographs, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Copyright

In providing digital access to materials from the library collections, the library adheres to copyright law, including the transfer or license of copyrighted materials to or by the university, and supports the exercise of fair use and the dissemination of materials in the public domain.

If a digital object is identified as being online without sufficient rights provided to the University at Buffalo Libraries by the rights holder, the UB Libraries will work with the rights holder to remedy the situation.

Submitting a Takedown Request

If you believe the online availability of the material should be addressed, please submit a Takedown Request and include the following:

  • Exact URL where you found the material,
  • Details that describe the material (title, collection name, number of items, etc.),
  • A statement containing the nature of the issues with the shared materials, such as non-attribution, misattribution, copyright infringement, or privacy concern. Please also address how the problem should be addressed, such as adding or fixing the attribution, updating the copyright information, or taking down the infringing materials.

Upon receipt of a request, UB library staff will:

  • Promptly acknowledge the request via email or other means of communication if you do not have an email account;
  • Assess the validity of the request;
  • Upon request, we may temporarily remove the material from public view while we assess the concern.
  • Upon completion of the assessment, we will take appropriate action and communicate that action to you.
