Strategic Priorities

The Libraries will concentrate on four priorities: Artificial Intelligence; Inclusive Growth and Engagement; Research Data; Repurposed Space.

Artificial Intelligence

Develop the necessary assessment resources, services, and infrastructure to address issues related to artificial intelligence by providing access to AI-related literature hosting workshops on AI concepts, collaborating on interdisciplinary projects, and fostering discussions on ethical AI practices.

  • Foster Ethical AI Discussions - Offer workshops that focus on the ethical considerations and challenges in AI development and deployment.
  • AI Training Programs - Develop and implement comprehensive training programs to enhance library staff's understanding of AI technologies and their applications.
  • Collaborate with Library Vendors - Arrange for vendors to provide regular updates on the latest advancements in AI technology and how their products can support academic research and learning.
  • AI in Curriculum Integration - Partner with academic departments to integrate AI topics into existing courses and develop new AI-focused courses.

Inclusive Growth and Engagement

Provide and support growth opportunities for all library employees and continue the work of the University Libraries Equity and Social Justice Advisory Group in order to integrate inclusivity into all aspects of the university.

  • Advisory Group Continuation - Maintain and support the University Libraries Equity and Social Justice Advisory Group (ESJAG) to oversee inclusive initiatives.
  • Diverse Collections - Ensure the library’s collection development policy includes acquiring resources that reflect diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Equity Audits - Conduct regular audits of library practices, policies, and collections to ensure they align with inclusive goals.

Research Data

Build-out research data services support for accessing, organizing, and preserving research data that will enhance academic and career support structures to ensure student success.

  • Establish a Data Services Department – Create a data services department with clearly articulated department goals that aligns with the library’s overall mission.
  • Develop Institutional Data Policies - Collaborate with university administration to create and implement policies on data management, sharing, and preservation.
  • Establish Cross-Departmental Collaboration - Work with academic departments, IT services, and research offices to create a unified approach to research data management.
  • Create an Advisory Committee - Utilize the committee's knowledge and experience to guide the development and implementation of research data services.

Repurposed Space

Remodel and enhance library buildings to ensure that they serve as a welcoming, safe, and enriching environment for our diverse student body and contribute to the social, cultural & economic vitality of Western New York.

  • Lockwood Library Renovation - Communicate progress and updates of the renovation to stakeholders to maintain transparency and build excitement.
  • Promote Awareness and Engagement - Develop marketing and communication strategies to inform the campus and community about all the facilities related library projects.
  • Ongoing Assessment and Improvement - Establish and support a feedback mechanism to continually assess the effectiveness of improvements and programming.
  • Create Inclusive and Flexible Spaces - Incorporate quiet study areas, collaborative workspaces, and social zones to cater to different study styles.
