Barr (Philip J.) papers, 1866-1983

This collection contains papers and memorabilia from Philip J. Barr, a member of the UB Dental School Class of 1926. Included are Barr's naturalization certificate, a certificate of ownership of a plot of land in St. Patrick's Cemetery, advertisement applications for the Iris yearbook, a newsletter for the Wilson Historical Society, various letters concerning 50-year UB reunions, lists of people appearing in reunion photos, two reunion photos which do not match the aforementioned lists, and miscellaneous photographs of various people.

Bartholomew (Ruth) Papers, 1922-1963

Papers, 1922-1963, pertaining to the career of Ruth Bartholomew as a librarian at the University of Buffalo; the bulk of the papers are in the form of an alphabetical file, date from 1922 to the early 1940s and pertain to the general administration of the Library. Also some later papers pertaining to her more specialized responsibilities in gifts and exchange, supplies and the bindery.

Bean (Berten C.) Drawings for the Medentian, 1940

Berten C. Bean was a member of the 1941 class of the School of Medicine. He served as Art Editor of the Medentian, the yearbook for the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. Collection contains four drawings by Bean which appeared in the 1940 edition of the Medentian; also includes a photographic collage which appeared in the same edition.

Bee Newspaper, 1921-1950

The Bee (1921-1950) focused almost entirely on student activities, often with humor. There was almost no coverage of events beyond the UB campus or on how those events impacted the lives of UB students. With veterans attending the university after the end of World War II enrolled an older and more diverse student body. It was then that the Bee’s sometimes frivolous style came under attack.

Benzow (Roland R.) Scrapbook, 1930-1933

Benzow was a student in the College of Arts and Sciences, 1930-1933. Scrapbook, 1930-1933, kept by Roland R. Benzow including clippings from campus and local newspapers; programs, tickets and other printed memorabilia from athletic events, dances, plays and other social events; award ribbons from the Moving Up Day Track Meet; a badge from the campus newspaper, The Bee; and other items illustrating campus life at the University of Buffalo in the early 1930s.

Berleant (Arnold) papers, 1955-2016

The papers of Arnold Berleant (1932-present), a musician and philosophy scholar whose works have focused on the study of aesthetics, environmental aesthetics, and ethics. This collection contains drafts and final versions of items he authored such as books, journal articles, essays, lectures; correspondence with colleagues and journal editors; research materials (newspaper clippings, journal articles, book excerpts, etc.); and materials related to professional conferences and meetings.

Besag (Frank P.) Papers, 1967

This collection contains individual and group interviews which were used as source material for Frank Besag's book Anatomy of a Riot: Buffalo, 1967, a case study comprised primarily of interviews with witnesses to the events in Buffalo from June 26 through July 1, 1967. The interviews were part of a survey commissioned by State University of New York at Buffalo president Martin Meyerson.  Also included are newspaper clippings about the study and a copy of the book.

Bison Head Constitution, 1923

Photocopy of the Constitution of the Bison Head, 1923, stating "The object of this society shall be to promote college spirit; to foster interest and induce a larger number to participate in student activities; to gather the recognized student leaders in one body to promote matters of University spirit, traditions and ideals; and to crystallize student opinion in regard to extracurricular activities".

Bison Magazine Covers, 1913-1941

The Bison was a humor magazine published by University of Buffalo students between 1913 and 1941. News items, poetry, and humorous stories filled the pages of this popular monthly publication. Many issues were considered theme numbers, and student artists created covers to announce the annual Freshman, Christmas, or Junior Prom numbers.

The early issues were called the University Bison, and, after publication was suspended for a year because of alleged “slanderous” material, the magazine resumed under the title of the New Bison. Publication ceased in 1941.

This collection presents sixty-one (61) of the front covers.

Also included are 46 audio cassettes containing recordings of music, poetry, and speakers who visited the college such as Robert Duncan, and Seamus Heaney.

Black Student Union periodical digital collection, 1969-1979

The Black Student Union (BSU) at UB was founded in 1967 and recognized by the Student Association in 1968. In 1969, it counted 1,000 members. Twelve periodical publications have been issued by the BSU and are the primary record of the activities and history of the organization.

Blue Rose Foundation records, 1974-1981

This is a small collection that contains three first editions authored by Gerda Weissmann Klein, one framed poster and three blue roses, the symbol of The Blue Rose Foundation.  The Blue Rose Foundation has provided financial support for projects related to helping people with developmental disabilities. Grants have helped agencies, organizations and individuals.

Brady, (William) M.D. collection, circa 1915

This collection contains medical advice written by William Brady, M.D., a UB alumnus from the graduating class of 1901. Included are two small pamphlets about blood and healthy eating, and four manuscripts with advice concerning blood pressure, bed-wetting, cardiovascular disease, and infant feeding.

Buffalo Schools Desegregation Records, 1972-1995

Buffalo Public Schools Desegregation records, 1972-1995, consist of files from the Buffalo School desegregation case, from 1972 through 1995. The files include papers submitted to the court, orders of the court, hearing exhibits, transcripts of hearings and depositions, plaintiffs' notes and analyses of Board data and proposals, plaintiffs' and defendants' correspondence, Board of Education proposals, reports and data, and press clippings. Related materials are located in the Citizens Council for human Relations, Inc. (CCHR) files and the files of the Citizens Commission on School Desegregation housed in the University Archives, permanent records filed in federal court, records maintained by the Buffalo Branch of the NAACP, and records maintained by the other parties to the suit.

Buffalo Women's Center Records, 1973-1978

This collection documents the activities and goals of the Buffalo Women's Center and includes correspondence, clippings, photographs, and newsletters. The majority of the materials document the Center's first year of operation (1973-1974), but newsletters and a history updated in 1978 cover the extent of the Center's existence.

Buffalonian Yearbooks, 1934-1948

The Buffalonian was UB’s second general student yearbook. The first was the Iris which ceased publication in 1932. The inaugural issue of the Buffalonian appeared in 1934. It was on February 26, 1934, that Norton Union opened, and the title page for the first issue of the Buffalonian proudly states “Published by the Associated Students of the University of Buffalo at Norton Hall on the University Campus.”

The Buffalonian was the yearbook for all UB students for only one year. In the 1935 medical and dental students launched a combined yearbook called the Medentian. When the Buffalonian ceased publication in 2001, it marked the end of a yearbook for undergraduates.
