Contents
The manuscripts are the first through third settings of the text in proof and were originally set from the twice-revised typescripts (although some of these do not survive, see Buffalo MSS V.B.4–9) of the episodes 6 through 11, which Joyce gave to the Imprimerie Darantiere, Dijon, France, to print the first edition of Ulysses . These MSS. The revised copies of these placards were used to set-up the first set of page proofs for those episodes (see Buffalo MSS V.C.2.B.1.i–11.i).

Notes
All the duplicate, marked copies of these MSS are at the Houghton Library, Harvard Uninversity.
MSS V.C.1.B.4.iii[bis] ( placard 13) do not have a placard signature and the JJA reproduction does not accurately represent the page layout of this manuscript (see JJA 18.029–032).
MSS V.C.1.B.6.ii.a and b, pp. [4–8] ( placard 15) were not set in page form, but rather as two long columns of text and the text on pp. [7 and 8] was inverted (141.14–142.27; 7.0996–1041 was set above 140.03–141.14; 7.0952–996; see JJA 18.075–076).2
Presumably Beach inverted copies of some of the folded placards so that the vertical fold would be on the left side, mimicking the orientation of a book. She paginated the first facing page (i.e. p. [3]) of each placard (see Other Markings , above).
The folds are worn and at times tattered or splitting. The outer edges of the sheets do not seem to have been machine cut.
- The printers set two pages in the reverse order in the second setting of placard 15 (see JJA 18.075–076).
- The JJA refers to this unsigned setting as "additions to third version" (18.001).
