Joyce was in Scheveningen, Holland, on 25 May 1927 but Joyce’s postscript indicates that he wrote the verse in Paris, though the date on the manuscript is difficult to establish.
The manuscript is signed and dated: “J.J. | Paris | [?16-7]-927”.
This manuscript has been reproduced in black and white photo-facsimile on JJA 1.338 and was published in Spielberg (p. 22) and then in PSW, p. 136. The image was partially reproduced in Bob Cato and Greg Vitiello, Joyce Images (London and New York: W. W. Norton, 1994), p. 66.
Joyce gave this manuscript to Sylvia Beach.
