Material Description and Collation
The manuscript consists of 9 sheets that are folded in half to form leaves and 2 separate leaves (they make up pp. [31] and [32] and pp. [33] and [34]) of Arnold handmade paper. The manuscript consists of 40 pages, of which 31 are printed and 9 are blank: the recto and verso of the front end leaf, the verso of the title-leaf, the verso of the subtitle-leaf, the verso of the description of text and decoration leaf, the verso of the colophon leaf, and the recto and verso of the rear cover leaf. There are no authorial revisions or corrections; the colophon was revised by the printer.
Pages [19]–[22] of the published work are not part of this manuscript. On the other hand, there are duplicate copies of pp. [7]–[10] (pp. [17], [18], [23], and [24] of the published work). These duplicate copies are identical, except that on p. [9] of the duplicate copy the initial illuminated letter was not printed, and on p. [12] of the duplicate copy the red-ink marginalia has been pasted to the right of the text block (as on p. [23] of the published work).
The main text and left-side marginalia are printed in black ink, while the right-side marginalia are printed in red; the initial letter is an illuminated (color) capital, except on p. [28], where the right-side marginalia and the footnotes, with diagraMS were printed separately in black and red inks, on different paper that were cut out and pasted in place on the page. The top edges of the leaves are machine cut but the other edges are roughly trimmed.
Measurements
The sheets measure approximately 51.2 x 31.8 cm. and pp. [31]–[32] and [33]–[34] measure 26.0 X 32.0 cm.
Pagination
The manuscript, like the printed work, is not paginated, but the printer probably wrote the page numbers "9", "16", "17", "18", "23", and "24" in the center of the lower margin of pp. [11], [18], [19], [20], [25], and [26], as well as "11"–"14" in the lower-outside corners of pp. [13]–[16], all in lead pencil.
The pagination of this manuscript differs from that in the printed editions because four further blank pages (two leaves), one in front and one in back, are part of the trade edition; a fact not noted in Slocum & Cahoon.
Contents
The manuscript is an incomplete unmarked copy of the page proofs of Storiella as She is Syung (London: Corvinus Press, February 1938 (see JJPL 170); Slocum and Cahoon A46). See FW 260.00–275.02 and 304.05–308.25. The manuscript and the printed work are identical, except that in the printed work the marginalia was printed slightly lower on p. [33] (p. [21] on the manuscript) and the colophon was revised.

Dating
The manuscript is undated but was probably set at the end of 1936. See correspondence between Corvinus Press and Paul Léon, 4 January 193[7] and 17 July 1937 (JJPL 170).

There are printers’ markings on pp. [12], [17], [19], and [33].
Publication
Pages [7]–[29] of this manuscript have been reproduced in black and white photo-facsimile on JJA 52.130–145 and 53.297–303; the remaining pages have not been reproduced.
Notes
The manuscript was enclosed in a Pomes Penyeach portfolio, a case of green watered silk over boards (see the description in Slocum and Cahoon A27, p, 39). There are traces of the brown paper glued to p. [28] on p. [29]. Two bookplates have been affixed to the manuscript; the first reads: "THE UNIVERSITY | OF BUFFALO | The James Joyce | Collection | In memorium | Philip J. Wickser" and is affixed to p. [4] and the other reads: "Joyce | Ex Libris Joyce post Mortem" and is affixed to p. 39.
