The manuscript is part of a sheet of ruled music paper, with writing on only one side in Joyce’s hand, written in black India ink and revised in black ink; the bottom and right edges are ragged.

The manuscript measures approximately 17.7 x 12.3 cm.

This is a draft of the opening stanza of the ballad on FW 44.

The manuscript has been reproduced in black and white photo-facsimile on JJA 40.345.
