VI.E.7: "Work in Progress"/Finnegans WakeManuscripts: Holograph Copy of an Insertion for the Second Proofs for transition 15/Finnegans Wake III.3§3 (1929):
The manuscript consists of 2 loose sheets of unlined paper, with writing, including corrections and revisions, on the rectos of both sheets as well as on the verso of the second sheet in the hand of an unidentified amanuensis in black ink; the verso of the first sheet is blank.
The manuscript measures 26.9 x 20.6 cm.
The recto of the second sheet is numbered "2" in the center of the upper margin in black ink.
The manuscript is a holograph draft of an insertion for the second proofs for transition 15 (February 1929), from which a typescript was prepared (Buffalo MS VI.F.7). See transition 15, 15, 230.14–37 as well as FW 530.36–531.25.
see III.3§3A.9+.
Joyce wrote this manuscript in late January 1929 (the proofs are dated 23 and 25 January 1929).
The manuscript was tagged "B." in the upper left margin of the first sheet in black ink. A typescript carbon (Buffalo MS VI.F.7) was also tagged with "B". The copy of the transition proof where the insert belongs (BL MS 47484b, f. 329; JJA 59.035) is similarly tagged.
The address of the transition printers was noted on the verso of the second sheet (probably in the hand of the same amanuensis) in black ink: "chez l’impremerie Jolas | Bruillard | Saint di Dizier | Haute Marne".
The manuscript has not been reproduced.
