*VI.E.4: "Work in Progress"/Finnegans Wake Manuscripts:Holograph Addition for the Marked Pages of This Quarter for the Proofs of transition 7/Finnegans Wake I.7 (1927):
The manuscript is a loose sheet of unruled paper in Joyce’s hand in black ink and lead pencil that is also revised in black ink; the verso is blank. There is a 1.7 cm. tear in the center of the bottom margin.
The manuscript measures 31.0 x 20.0 cm.
The manuscript is a holograph insertion for the marked pages of This Quarter for the proofs of transition 7. Joyce may have sent this manuscript to the printers along with the marked pages of This Quarter but probably had to send it second time because this additional text was not set on the proofs of transition 7. The text on this manuscript differs from all published versions, but see transition 7, 40.08–31 as well as FW 175.07–28.
I.7§1.7+ and/or I.7§1.8+.
Joyce wrote this manuscript in August–September 1927.
Joyce tagged the recto of the manuscript with an "A" in the upper left corner in blue crayon that corresponds to similar marks on the revised page of This Quarter (BL MS 47474, f. 75v; JJA 47.474) as well as on the proofs of transition 7 (BL MS 47474, f. 89; JJA 47.487).
The manuscript has not been reproduced.
