Material Description and Collation
The manuscript is Joyce’s copy of Two Tales Told of Shem and Shaun (London: Faber and Faber, November 1932; Slocum and Cahoon A37), with emendations and corrections only of the text of "The Mookse and the Gripes"(on pp. 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 22, and 27), in the hand of an unidentified amanuensis (but not Beach), in black ink.
Measurements
The book measures 18.6 x 12.1 cm.
Pagination
The pages are numbered as in the published work, but pp. 11–30, were renumbered "146"–"165" in an unidentified hand in the bottom margins in black ink.
Contents
The manuscript is a revised copy of just "The Mookse and the Gripes" section of the book (FW 152.04–159.23), probably intended for the printer of Finnegans Wake (R. MacLehose and Co., The University of Glasgow Press). This document was not sent to the printer; instead a further revised copy of the earlier Tales Told of Shem and Shaun (BL MS 47475, fs. 249–256v; JJA 47.303–324; Paris: Black Sun Press, 1929) was used to set up the galleys of Finnegans Wake. The text of “The Ondt and the Gracehoper" on pp. 33–45 is unmarked.

Dating
Two Tales Told of Shem and Shaun was published in 1932 and Joyce made these revisions between 1932 and 1936.
Other Markings
The printed title, "The Mookse and the Gripes,"was crossed through and a mark indicating that the title should be deleted was written beside it in the right margin in black ink.
Publication
The manuscript has not been reproduced, but see JJA 47.303–318, where a more substantially marked version of the Tales Told of Shem and Shaun (BL MS 47475, fs. 249r–256v) has been reproduced.
Notes
The instruction "[follow direct to page 166 | with new paragraph]" was written below the new page number "165" in the bottom margin of p. 30 by the amanuensis in black ink. The UB call number is J69.23 / 1929 / T34 / 2.1 / 1932 / c.1.
