VI.E.6.b [VI.B.50.b]: "Work in Progress"/Finnegans Wake Manuscripts: Notes and an Addition for III.2 (1928):


Material Description and Collation

The manuscript is a loose sheet of Joyce’s stationary, watermarked "Anes Mres Canson & Montgolfier | THE STRONGEST PAPER", with writing on only one side of the sheet in Joyce’s hand in black ink. This is the same kind of paper as MSS VI.E.6.a, VI.I.36, and I.39.

Measurements

The manuscript measures 26.8 x 20.7 cm.


Contents

On the recto, Joyce wrote a revised version of the text on Buffalo MS VI.E.6.a [VI.B.50.a, recto] as an addition for FW III.2 (see FW 470.12–21) in black ink; he also copied part of the first line of the text on the verso, but crossed it through in black ink.

Dating

Joyce wrote this manuscript in early June 1928.


Other Markings

Joyce’s address, "2, Square Robiac | 192 rue de Grenelle", is printed in blue ink in the lower left corner of the verso (as the sheet was used) and was crossed out in green crayon. Joyce tagged the text with an "A" in the upper left corner of the recto in green crayon for insertion on the fourth setting of the transition 13 galleys. There is also a blue crayon mark beside the "A".
