First Part of a Further Partial Duplicate Copy of the Typescript (with First Overlay) of the "Circe" (15) Episode for Ulysse s (1921)


Material Description and Collation

The manuscript consists of 11 sheets of typing paper. All of the pages are double-spaced typewritten black ink bottom (carbon) copies, except pp. [56], [57], [58], and [64] which are top (original) purple ribbon copies; all the versos are blank. There are corrections and additions in Joyce’s hand in black ink on all of the pages.


Measurements

The sheets measure approximately 27.0 x 20.5 cm.

The sheets were paginated in the left margin in pencil; see Contents .

The manuscript is yet another partial typescript of the "Circe" episode, comprised of mixed top and bottom copies of what were at least 4 complete typescripts (a top copy and 3 bottom copies), of which 3 partial, other copies survive (Buffalo MSS V.B.13.e, 13.f and 13.h). This typescript was prepared directly from the Rosenbach manuscript (faircopy) version of the episode (see CSE 1884–1885). The typescript was revised by Joyce, who also made most of these same emendations on the corresponding pages of the other copies of the typescript. This copy of the typescript is continued on MS V.B.13.g.2. The text on the pages is as follows:
