Two Duplicate Copies of the Typescript of the "Messianic Scene" for the "Circe" episode for Ulysses (1921)


Material Description and Collation

The manuscript consists of 12 sheets in duplicate (24 sheets in total) of thin typing paper. All of the pages are double-spaced typewritten purple ink bottom (carbon) copies; all the versos are blank. There are no corrections or additions.


Measurements

The sheets measure approximately 26.8 x 20.9 cm.


Pagination

The sheets were paginated "1"–"12" in the upper right corner by the typist .


Contents

The manuscript is a late addition (the so-called "Messianic Scene") for the typescript of the "Circe" episode, of which another incomplete copy survives (Buffalo MS V.B.13.h.2). This part of the typescript was prepared from MS V.A.20. The text on the pages is as follows:

Dating

The typescript was prepared in the summer of 1921 in Paris.


Publication

Only one copy of pp. [8] and [9] of this manuscript have been reproduced in black and white photo-facsimile on JJA 15.315–316.


Other Markings

There are rust stains from 3 paperclips on a copy of p. [1].


Notes

There are black ink smudges on most pages and some discoloration to the outer edges of most pages.
