The manuscript consists of 30 sheets of thin tan typing paper. All of the pages are double-spaced typewritten black ink bottom (carbon) copies; all the versos are blank. There are corrections and additions in Joyce’s hand all of the pages, except on pp. [14], [15], [34], [35] and [36].

The sheets measure approximately 27.0 x 21.0 cm.

Pagination

The sheets were paginated "94)", "95)", "97)"–"101)", "103)"– "111)", "114"–"117", "119"–"123" and "125"–"129" in the lower left margin in lead pencil, possibly by Joyce, they are also stamped "96", "97", "99"–"103", 105"–"113", "116"–"119", "121"–"125" and "127"–"131" in the upper right corner in black ink, pp. [21]–[24], [26]–[30] and [32]–[36] were also paginated by typist "2"–"5", "7"–"11" and "13"–"17" in the upper right corner and p. Contents

The manuscript is a typescript of the "Circe" episode, comprised of only bottom copies of what were presumably 4 complete typescripts (a top copy, none of which survives, and 3 bottom copies), of which 2 partial, other copies survive (Buffalo MSS V.B.13.e and 13.g). This part of the typescript was also prepared from the scribal version of the Rosenbach manuscript (faircopy) version of the episode (MS V.B.13.d). The typescript was revised by Joyce, who also made most of the emendations on the corresponding pages of the other copies of the typescript. It is continued from MS V.B.13.h.5 and is continued directly on MS V.B.13.h.7, p. [4] and concluded on p. [16]. The text on the pages is as follows:

Notes

Page [20] of this typescript was last recorded as having been sold at the Christie’s London sale of 20th Century Books and Manuscripts: Thursday 2 December 2004 (lot 22, p. 21). All of the pages are tanning from acidification. There are 2 perforations in the left margin of each sheet, where the sheets were once fastened together. The sheets were folded horizontally and vertically in the center.
