VI.I.15.

*VI.I.15: "Work in Progress"/Finnegans Wake Emendations and Errata: Emendations For the Duplicate (Missing) Copy of the Typescript for This Quarter I.1/Finnegans Wake I.7 (1925):

Material Description and Collation

The manuscript is a loose sheet of blue stationery that is torn along what is now its bottom edge. The emendations are in Joyce’s hand in black ink on the recto and verso. The manuscript is the same kind of paper as VI.I.14 and I.22, but the torn edges do not appear to coincide, suggesting that they come from different sheets of similar paper.

Measurements

The manuscript measures 6.0 x 21.1 cm.

 Contents

The manuscript is an extradraft sheet that presumably instructs Beach to make corresponding emendations on her copy of the typescript for the printer of This Quarter. See This Quarter 114.03, 114.08, 115.22, 115.28, 116.06, 119.11, and 119.17 as well as FW 179.01–02, 179.06, 181.17, 181.25–26, 182.23, 187.10, and 187.22.

JJA Draft Code

JJA I.7§1.5’+.

Dating

Joyce probably made these emendations in July 1925.

Other Markings

In the upper left corner of the recto, Joyce headed the manuscript “Shem” in black ink and on the lower right corner he wrote "p.t.o." with lines above and below the note, also in black ink.

Notes

The emendations were also made on the extant typescript (BL 47474, fs. 45, 47, 48, and 53; JJA 47.457, 459, 460, and 464) in Joyce’s hand, and all but one emendation (see This Quarter 115.22) was incorporated in the published text of This Quarter (the proofs, which were certainly revised in this case, are missing).
