*VI.I.41 [Also X.C.106 (X.C.100)]: "Work in Progress"/Finnegans Wake Emendations and Errata: Emendations for a (Missing) Duplicate Copy of the Second Typescript of Book III/Finnegans Wake III.4 (1926):
The manuscript is a heavy sheet of rolled, unlined pink paper, with writing only on the recto. The emendation is in Joyce’s hand in black ink.
The sheets measure 33.6 x 21.6 cm.
This manuscript is an extradraft sheet that instructs Beach to emend a (missing) copy of the second typescript: no copy of the second typescript of III.4 is known to be extant. See FW 589.07.
III§1A.7+/1D.7+//2A.7+/2B.7+//3A.6+/3B.6//4.3+.
The letter is dated 2 September 1926.
The manuscript was published on JJSB69–70(#83).
Beach transcribed this emendation on MS VI.I.40.a and it was typed on I.40.b. It is possible that the "extra corrections for abcd" Joyce refers to in this letter is MS VI.I.38 [VI.H.1]. No copy of the second typescript of III.4 is known to be extant.
