The manuscript is the verso of an envelope. The emendation is in Joyce’s hand in lead pencil.
The manuscript measures 23.0 x 10.3 cm.
The manuscript presumably instructs Beach to emend two copies of the marked pages of transition 8, though the text cited has not been located in any extant manuscript of "Anna Livia Plurabelle."

Joyce wrote the manuscript from mid November 1927 to January 1928.
The recto of the envelope is addressed in an unidentified hand to "James Joyce Esq | 2. Square Robiac | 192 Rue de Grenelle VIIe | Paris". It has English postage for a registered letter (London, E.C.1 3) as well as a postmark dated "11 Nov [?1927]".
