The manuscript consists of a loose sheet of Grand Hôtel de la Poste, Rouen, stationery, which Joyce used vertically, in black ink.

The manuscript is the second sheet of a letter to Beach in which Joyce instructs her to emend her (second carbon) copy of the typescript (BL 47474, fs. 186r–202r) for the printers of the Calendar of Modern Letters. Although a partial set of galley proofs was set up by the printers (BL 47474, fs. 204–206; JJA 48.153–155), "Anna Livia Plurabelle" was not published in the Calendar of Modern Letters. See FW 197.35, 200.16, 200.36, 201.28, 202.05, 205.13, 206.14, 206.24, 207.21, 209.17, 209.17, 212.09–10, 212.13 and 212.14.
