Notes
All of these emendations verify Joyce’s own additions to the marked pages of transition 8 (Yale 7.7, fs. 17–35; JJA 48.218–227). Beach clarified some of the marginal additions on the marked pages to correspond with this manuscript. This manuscript was most likely sent to Joyce with the eight emendations in blue pencil on the recto, to which Joyce added further corrections and changes in pencil. Subsequently, Joyce mailed the sheet back to Beach around November 1927. The emendation in Beach’s hand in ink was most likely added at a later stage. The changes, as instructed in this manuscript, do not appear in any subsequent draft or printing of the text.
