Material Description and Collation

The manuscript is a loose sheet of blue Hôtel Astoria & Claridge, Bruxelles stationery. The emendation is in Joyce’s hand in blue ink.

The manuscript measures 27.3 x 18.2 cm.


Contents

The manuscript is a letter to Beach in which Joyce instructs her to emend copies of the typescript of "The Triangle" (FW II.2§8) for Wyndham Lewis (Cornell Joyce Collection, fs. 1–11; JJA 045–055). See FW 286.19, 287.21, 287.27, 287.27, 288.13, 290.07–08, 290.20 and 303.11.

Dating

The manuscript was probably written on 26 September 1926.


Publication

The correspondence was published on JJSB74–75 (#90).


Notes

All of the revisions appear in Beach’s hand on the one surviving copy of the typescript (Cornell, Wyndham Lewis Collection, pp. 2–5 and 11; JJA 53.45–55), prepared for the proposed publication of "The Triangle" in The Enemy, which was not published. The changes appear on the galley proofs for transition 11. Before writing these instructions to Beach, Joyce noted these emendations on Buffalo Finnegans Wake notebook MS VI.B.15.017.
